Faithful | Diane Allen

From change and transition at work; to a life-changing diagnosis for a child; to a devastating but brave decision by a child to walk away from a life event; to a child moving many hundreds of miles from home; to the death of a dear friend to disease, to a parent with dementia living so very far away and feeling helpless and guilty for not being able to share the burden; to going beyond my comfort zone to Africa on a short-term mission trip. Life is full of challenges and disappointments; but also, so much Joy! Even, and especially, in the midst of our challenges!

Our son had surgery, the tumor was malignant, you hear the “C” word, cancer - lymphoma, and your heart sinks. It’s a very surreal feeling that many have had the unfortunate experience of having. The comfort through prayers, encouraging words, and scripture had an amazing impact on my spirit. Whether it was certain words spoken during group prayer “Say the Word Jesus”, several text messages with scripture that were prayed over us (Lamentations 3:22-24, Exodus 33:14, Psalm 3:3-4 and many more), responses to my blog reassuring and loving us, these were all touches that allowed me to rest in the knowledge that He heals, He loves my child, He’s got this. It was hard, it was scary, I doubted, but in the midst there was peace. We celebrated each victory and found  joy in each step of the journey. It’s not over, but we’ve gained strength to persevere with confidence in Christ.

God never disappoints in His faithfulness, which inspires me to strive to remain faithful to Him. Truly listening for His guidance and trusting Him, even when the world doesn’t understand decisions you make is hard. The blessings that have come out of each challenge are far too numerous to list. His peace in the midst of tough times gives me the ability to speak words of comfort and encouragement to others on similar journeys. The love and encouragement we offer one another is a true lifeline during our darkest moments. I always share my favorite verse from Isaiah and so now I will share it with you.

Isaiah 43:1-3a
1 But now thus says the Lord,
he who created you, O Jacob,
   he who formed you, O Israel:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
   I have called you by name, you are mine.
2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
   and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
   and the flame shall not consume you.
3 For I am the Lord your God,
   the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.
