rethinking the church
There is a gap between where we are and where we see ourselves in God’s story. This gap can seem insurmountable, overwhelming, and even impossible. But here’s the thing: God often places a call or burden upon us to spur us on towards His mission (Misseo Dei). This series will challenge us to rethink CrossPoint and our own personal mission.
search for happiness
How will I find Happiness in 2018? Happiness means something different to different people. Many, in our modern society, attempt to “find” happiness through material possessions, a new job, or even a significant other. In the end, though, these things often leave us just as empty as we were before. ‘The Search for Happiness’ flips this approach on its head, detailing the importance of putting our focus on the person of Jesus and understanding God’s blessed happiness.
So many evidences of grace have been captured this past week. We’ve been given more than five truckloads of food, supplies, and clothing. We’ve seen families impacted by the floods receiving care then immediately helping others with the same needs in their neighborhood. This is the work of the gospel and presence of Jesus in our lives as we “Press On.” Which is why we are holding over the “Press On” series for the next two weeks. The Bible directs us during times of trial and challenge just like the Harvey relief. Join us this week to discover Jesus’ message for difficult situations and how each of us may respond.
In our society, a lot of the rebellion we see has become just another way of conforming to old norms. The old outward signs of rebellion have become just another set of rules to follow in order to be cool. And because everyone is doing it, it's not cool and it's definitely not rebellious.
The fact is, when you say no to one authority, you are saying yes to another. So…are you going to follow the rules and norms of society, or are you going to rebel? If you rebel, then what norm or authority will you submit to…and model for your children to submit to?
You can’t move through the water without leaving some kind of wave, some kind of wake, some kind of effect. The same is true in life. You leave a wake. You leave a history. You leave a legacy.
What kind of legacy are you leaving as you move through life? With the way you use your talents, your time, your treasures? What if instead of a legacy of busyness and tasks and dysfunctions, even our failures could be turned into a legacy that changes and liberates generations?
Life in the trenches
Following Jesus isn’t about living a “happy clappy” life that ignores reality. In fact, the opposite is true. Following Jesus is about real life, Life In The Trenches. Life is hard, and life in the trenches needs leadership. And when we’re in the trenches, it's tempting to hunker down, give up, be a bully, or run away. What about you? Will you lead? Can you lead yourself? Others? At home? At work? What if there is a power available to you - even in the deepest darkness - that can not only lift you up, but raise you up to lead others? Well...there is.
